Self-care is not a cure for burnout

You can’t self-care your way out of burnout.

I'm guessing you've felt the strain.

Too tired.

Too reliant on caffeine to get through the day.

Too overloaded with responsibilities that seem to multiply by the hour.

And while self-care is essential, it’s not a cure for burnout.

If we want teams—and organizations—to thrive, we need to fundamentally rethink what work looks like.

This isn’t just about adding more wellness perks or offering a free yoga class.

It’s about actually addressing the culture and structure of work itself.

Changing the culture starts with you.

Take a hard look at what’s on your plate.

Are you prioritizing the right things?
Or is everything being treated as urgent?

What responsibilities could be delegated, postponed, or even removed?

More importantly, what does this look like for your team?

Reclaiming time and energy isn’t about better self-care practices.

It demands a thoughtful and strategic approach to how you manage your work and your team.

It’s about setting clear boundaries and upholding them, even when it’s hard.
And most importantly, it’s about modeling a culture that doesn’t value burnout.

Because a burned-out leader doesn’t lead well.

And burned-out teams don’t stick around.

So, it's time to take the first step.

Prioritize what's important, delegate what’s not, and model the kind of culture your team needs to thrive.
