Avoid the cannonball

If you are a new leader-

(New to leadership or new to your role)

Please avoid the following leadership mistake:

Do not cannonball into the deep end.

I know you want to.

You are excited.

And enthusiastic

And ready to hit the ground running.

But please resist this temptation to jump right into the deep end.

You might feel like you know exactly what needs to be done.

And maybe you do.

But the people around you need you to listen.

To learn.

And to wade into the shallow end with them.

Remember, leadership isn’t about having all of the answers.

Or making immediate decisions

The best leaders know that cannonballs send waves beyond the pool that create unintended effects.

Like getting people wet.

Sometimes you need to go slow to go fast.

Take your time.

Build trust.

And create a foundation for long-term success.

Here’s to your successful journey ahead!
