Leadership Lessons with Taylor Swift

If you know me personally, you know that I live with a diehard Swiftie.

So it was no surprise that we watched the Grammys Sunday night.

And while the world (and my 16yo) can’t stop talking about Taylor Swift's album announcement, what stuck with me was her demonstration of leadership.

During her acceptance speech for Album of the Year, a record-breaking moment, Taylor took the opportunity to acknowledge Lana Del Rey.

She praised Lana Del Ray's artistry and accomplishments and told us why the work Del Ray has done matters.

It was a profound reminder of the power of acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of others.

And lifting others' work.

I am often asked about how we can develop and empower others when we're not in formal leadership roles.

Taylor’s speech serves as a great example of this.

Every one of us has the power to help create a culture where recognition and celebration of accomplishments are valued.

And lifting up another's achievements is one important way you can contribute to the development of other people.

True leadership transcends formal titles and roles.

It lies in the actions you take to lift and empower those around you.

(And yes, I am excited about the album too!)
