Stop trying to transform
Hot take.
I hate this word when it comes to leaders:
Transformation.
Not because change isn’t real.
But because of what the word does to leaders who are already trying so hard.
Here’s what I see happen.
You pick up a book, attend a retreat, or read an article about “transforming your leadership.”
And somewhere in the process, you think you need to become a completely different leader.
Different communication style.
Different temperament.
Different instincts.
(I’ve felt this too.)
That’s not growth.
That’s self-erasure.
Here’s the truth.
The leaders who grow the most aren’t the ones who transform.
They’re the ones who get clearer.
Clearer about what they value.
Clearer about where they’re getting in their own way.
Clearer about the small habits that are quietly costing them.
That kind of growth doesn’t feel like transformation.
It feels like coming home to yourself.
Stop trying to transform.
Start paying attention to who you want to be as a leader.
