The follow-through gap
I see this with leaders I coach.
They’ve had the conversations.
They’ve set the goals.
They’ve even gotten buy-in.
But the results?
Inconsistent.
Scattered.
Slower than expected.
This is what I call the follow-through gap.
It shows up when:
Expectations are set but not revisited.
People aren't sure what accountability looks like.
You assume alignment and don’t double-check it.
Here’s the thing:
Setting goals is only half the work.
Following through with your team is where traction happens.
That means:
- Clear check-ins with your team.
- Regular reflection on how things are going.
- A shared understanding of next steps.
If things aren’t moving forward, don’t just revisit your goals.
Look at the systems that are meant to support them.
