Team Clarity Exercise
Aligning on Priorities with Intention
Purpose:
This exercise is designed to give your teams a moment to step out of the daily rush and align on what truly matters. It’s not about adding more to your plate; it’s about ensuring every action moves your organization closer to its vision. By the end of this session, your team will have a shared understanding of your top priorities and a clear path forward.
Time required: 45 minutes
Step 1: Individual Reflection (10 minutes)
Have each team member to reflect on these prompts in silence and write down their responses:
What are the three most important priorities for our team this quarter?
Where do you see opportunities to focus more intentionally?
What’s one thing we could let go of to create more space for what matters?
Step 2: Share & Capture Themes (10 minutes)
Each person briefly shares their top priorities (1 minute).
As a facilitator, capture the priorities on a whiteboard or shared document.
Group similar ideas to create a master list of potential priorities.
Step 3: Rank Your Top Priorities (10 minutes)
Give each team member 3 dots or markers (physical or virtual) to “vote” on the priorities that feel most critical.
As a group, highlight the top 3–5 priorities based on collective input.
Refine the language of each to ensure clarity and focus.
Step 4: Assign Actions & Owners (10 minutes)
For each agreed priority, define:
Owner: Who is responsible for moving this forward?
First Step: What’s the very next action to take?
Success Measure: How will we know this priority is on track?
Ask each leader to share one commitment they’ll make to support these priorities.
End with a reflection prompt:
“What feels different now that we’ve aligned as a team?”
