Are you creating a burnout culture?
High performance shouldn’t come with a 24/7 expectation.
But in many organizations, it still does.
A new Harvard Business Review article shows that employees who unplug after hours are often seen as less committed.
And this includes high performers, even when their results are exceptional.
Here’s the thing:
Not being available 24/7 is not the same as disengagement.
If you say you value boundaries and well-being but reward responsiveness over results, you’re not leading.
You’re creating a culture that values burnout.
So before labeling someone as “checked out,” ask yourself:
Are they disengaged, or just not available when I want them to be?
If your best people feel they must work all the time to prove their worth, they won’t stay.
And that’s not a them problem.
That’s a leadership problem.
