You deserve a great retreat

Years ago, I attended a two-day senior leadership retreat.

The setting was beautiful.

It was classic New England in the summer.
And had all the makings of a meaningful experience.

But that’s where the positives ended.

There was no real agenda.
No clear goals.
Just a lot of talking.
One voice dominated.

And the rest of us?

We listened.
We waited.
We checked out.

After two days away from my team and my family, I came home completely drained.
And seriously questioning whether I wanted to stay in my role at that organization.

That retreat did not build alignment.

It did not build trust.
It did not build anything.

Here's the thing:

Summer is an ideal season for a team retreat.
But only if it is done right.

Retreats that actually move the needle share three things:

✔️ A clear purpose
✔️ A balance of deep thinking and real connection
✔️ A follow-up plan that turns ideas into action

A retreat should not be a break from the work.

It should be a catalyst for better work.

If you're planning a retreat and want it to matter and to actually strengthen your team, I’d love to help you make it count. Drop me a note here.

You deserve a great retreat.

And so does your team.
