Can we normalize doing work at work?

I have a request.

Can we normalize doing work at work?

So many leaders tell me they feel pressure to keep their door open.

All day.

Every day.

But an open door isn't always the right call.

It often means:

✔️ Constant interruptions

✔️ Switching to tasks you never planned to take on

✔️ Getting pulled into conversations you didn't need to be in

The people we work with are what make work great.

And closing the door to move a project forward or think deeply about strategy isn't just okay.

It shows others that this is important work.

And that it belongs in the workday.

Too many of us save it for evenings and weekends.

I don't know about you.

But that's not when I do my best thinking.

So try this:

Block one hour on your calendar in the next two weeks.

Close the door.

Tell people what you're doing and why.

I'm guessing you'll feel the difference.
