Cringy

When I work with clients, there is one phrase that makes me cringe whenever I hear it.

Want to guess what it is?

"We’re just like a family."

Here’s the thing.

Your team is not a family.

Teams are fundamentally rooted in performance.

They focus on achieving goals, meeting deadlines, and driving strategy forward.

You can, of course, have deep relationships with others on your team or in your organization.

However, this dynamic differs significantly from family relationships.

If you put up with some of the bad behavior that many of us see in our families, it would be detrimental to your team or organization’s success.

Your team dynamics shape your organizational culture.

It’s up to you to make sure your team remains focused on performance rather than slipping into a family-like dynamic.
