"What do people misunderstand about you?"
I asked this question in a recent coaching session.
It got a laugh at first.
But then it went quiet.
"They think I'm fine."
I hear some version of this a lot.
Leaders get very good at looking fine.
You're steady in the meeting.
Calm in the hallway.
Always the one with the answer.
And the better you get at it, the fewer people think to ask.
That’s what makes leadership lonely.
Looking fine and being fine aren’t the same thing.
Make sure at least one person knows the difference.
